Isenhour Restoration

We had the honor of reinvigorating this timeless, mid-century modern home 50 years after its construction. It was originally designed and built by Richard Isenhour, one of Kentucky’s premier modernist architects. Isenhour built with intention, creating a deeply-rooted connection to each project. And it’s this connection that ties us deeply to the renovation.

We partnered with Gibson Taylor Thompson Architecture to finish the exterior in local river bed stone, vertical pipe siding, and horizontal rough sawn cedar siding. Beginning from the stained concrete driveway, clean lines are met with contrast, asymmetry, and abundant natural light.

The interior was designed by Dovetail Design Studio. Warm stained woods that are hard-wearing and natural provide a balance to steel and concrete. Walnut built-ins are tactile and modern, playing with positive and negative space to create a sense of ease.

And in the primary wardrobe, clean and simple lines accommodate complex storage needs. Form follows function, not as an afterthought but as evolution.

For us, Heller-Built is the finest home construction company in Lexington and the central Kentucky area. We were able to remodel our 50 year old home and turn it into a beautifully modern residence that is remarkably well built, with attention to details that continue to make us grateful for their excellent work.

What is unique to this family business is how prepared they are to take the inherent stress of home construction off of the homeowner with their competence. They were transparent with scheduling and budgeting. There were no hidden surprises along the way. Their employees’ craftsmanship and pride in their work is evident throughout our home. They hire only the best subcontractors. The result is a home with qualities and details that are above and beyond the standards by which most homes are built today.
